Kingston Park is more than just a playground; it is a space that celebrates community, culture, and the natural environment. Designed for all ages and abilities, it features nine distinct areas of play inspired by the animals and habitats native to Kingborough, each representing one of Tasmania's nine Aboriginal Nations through unique animal motifs.
Kingston Park, located in the heart of Kingston, is a play space that truly embodies the essence of 'uniquely Kingborough.' Completed between 2018 and 2021, this vibrant and community-focused project is the first stage of a broader master plan for the area. Its success is a testament to the collaborative efforts of local and interstate artists, designers, the Kingborough Council, and the broader community.
Playstreet, the lead design firm, worked closely with Aboriginal educators and consultants from the outset to ensure an authentic and respectful interpretation of Aboriginal history within the playground. The result is a space that not only provides fun and engagement for children but also educates visitors about Tasmania’s rich cultural heritage.
Linking these play spaces, and complementing the natural beauty of Kingston Park, is the Terrain collection of outdoor furniture. Botton + Gardiner is honoured to have collaborated with Playstreet landscape architects on the suite of Terrain furniture supplied for this landmark project. Utilizing a mix of standard and specially tailored pieces, Terrain blends harmoniously with the contemporary play zones, providing comfortable and stylish seating areas that enhance the park's overall aesthetic and visitor experience.
